Health & Social Care
Health and Social Care Btec Level 3 at Bodmin College is a vocational course for students who want to work with people. You should have an interest in people and how they grow and develop, alongside the factors that affect them and shape their development. Past students have gone on to a range of careers, such as nursing, paramedics, teachers, social workers, care assistants and occupational therapists.
Students need Grade 4 (C) in English, Maths and Science which are necessary if you are thinking of applying to university (you can re-sit GCSEs in Sixth Form) however, as the Health and Social Care Diploma is assessed solely through coursework, involving a lot of writing, you will need good skills in written and spoken English and be capable of achieving at least a GCSE Grade C on re-sit. As well as the academic skills, you must have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude to your studies. While two years sounds a long time, there’s a lot of work to be covered from the first day and you have to be prepared to meet deadlines and keep on top of the coursework – self discipline and good time management is essential.
