Results Day 2019

Students and staff at Bodmin College are celebrating unprecedented A-Level result success as this year’s cohort recorded a 96% pass rate in over 55different courses with 20 subjects achieving over 80% A*-C grades or equivalent. Particularly exceptional A Level results were seen in Chemistry, Fine Art, Music, Physics, Psychology, Spanish and Extended Project, with outstanding success also seen in the vocational subjects of Health & Social Care, Textiles and CACHE. Physics, Fine Art, Music and Textiles celebrated 50% of students achieving A*/A grades, with Chemistry celebrating nearly 70% A*-B grades.

Ellie Fullwood and Poppy Cheeseman were among some of the highest achieving students of the year, both achieving A*AA in English, History, Chemistry and Chemistry, Physics, Fine Art respectively. Ellie Fullwood secures a places at Oxford University’s Wadham College, to read History, whilst Poppy goes on to study Applied Clinical Psychology at Exeter University. Ellie said, “I’m still in shock! I’m so pleased, it’s real mix of emotions; euphoria and excitement coupled with relief. It’s been worth the hard work and I’m so grateful for all the support and encouragement I’ve received.” Elena Rautio also celebrated the highest level of success with Double Distinction* in Music BTEC Diploma and A grade in A’ Level Music and is thrilled to be going to study Creative Events at Falmouth University. 


Twins Harry and George Featherston also recorded impressive results with straight A grades for Harry in Chemistry, Physics and Maths and ABB in Physics, Chemistry and Maths for George. Harry said, “I’m so pleased with my results as it means I can go on to study Pure Physics at Bristol University.” George added, “I’ve had a wonderful time at Bodmin College and am now really excited to have secured my place at Kings College London to study Physics too”. Best friend Joey Davidge also got the grades he needed to study Physics at Bath University; “I was too nervous to look at the UCAS site this morning, I didn’t think I’d got in! I’m so relieved, it’s just starting to sink in!” 


Stephanie Hill joined Bodmin College Sixth Form for a fresh start to retake and improve her grades having been previously disappointed and is over the moon having now achieved 4 grade As in Psychology, Fine Art, Art and EPQ. Stephanie says “The support and encouragement I’ve received have been brilliant and although it’s been hard work I’ve enjoyed every moment, I’m so thrilled to have achieved 4 As!” 


Aiden Difford achieved Double Distinction in Health & Social Care and Pass in Business Studies and is now off to Plymouth University with a view to taking over the family business in the future. Valentine Bailey-Beckett achieved 3 Bs and is hoping that this will secure her place in top ranked US undergraduate university Pomona College, Southern California USA to study Liberal Arts. This comes with a lot of financial support that should ensure she leaves at the end of her degree with no debt. Valentine is the third Bodmin College student to make the trip to the USA together these students have secured close to $3/4 million in the past five years! 

Bodmin College Principal Emmie Seward-Adams praised the results, saying, “We are incredibly proud of the A-Level results our students have achieved. The staff and students have worked extremely hard with such effort and determination throughout this school year and it’s truly paid off. We’re now so pleased to be able to wish all of our students every success for the future. Many of them will use these fantastic results to either enter directly into employment and apprenticeships, or to progress into universities of their choice. They will always be part of the Bodmin College family and we are, of course, on hand for any assistance they may need in taking these next steps.” 


Joe Crane, Head of Sixth Form, said, “I’m so incredibly proud of each and every student and all the hard work that they’ve put into their studies this year. The results are a testament to their dedication, and I wish them all the very best for the next stage of their lives – wherever it might take them.” Mrs Seward-Adams added, “With superb Post 16 Results, an extensive range of opportunities through our inclusive curriculum for all and along-standing history of community links, excellent pastoral and aspirations support, we’re seeing record numbers of students applying for places at Bodmin College’s Sixth Form.” 


“I’d like to personally congratulate every one of our Sixth Form students for yet another set of fantastic A-Level results. I hope they all enjoy a well-deserved rest over the remaining summer holiday and wish them all the very best for the next stages of their journeys in September.”
