I hope this letter finds you and your family well. I last wrote to you on 15th July with outline information about how we would be reopening Bodmin College for all students in September. I am now writing with more detailed information to help you and your son/daughter to prepare for the start of the new term.
In a scene very different to previous results days, today Bodmin College Sixth Form students collected their A-level results at staggered times and socially distanced. Nevertheless, it was also a scene of smiles and celebrations after a summer-long wait made all the more nerve-wracking by months of remote learning.
Four 6th Form students from Bodmin College have completed a 35-mile Ultramarathon to raise both money and awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement. Dominic Hill, Mia Rowe, Maya KC Cotton and Jasmine Spencer, all in year 12, walked and part-ran the Ultramarathon on Tuesday 9th June across some of Bodmin Moor’s most challenging terrain.
It will be an exciting time for five Bodmin College students over the next couple of weeks as they have all secured interviews at either Oxford or Cambridge universities. This is the first time that 100% of Oxbridge applicants from the school have all received interviews. There is a real breadth of courses applied for as well. The week after half term Mrs Hewitt (Head of Business Studies) took 4 Year 12 students to City College Plymouth as part of the Next Steps programme. The students got a tour of the facility, met current degree students and the degree course leader whom they had many questions about courses available and links with organisations. Year 12 and 13 students have recently returned from a very successful trip to Hong Kong. Twelve 6th form students visited HK over February half term and described the trip as amazing and a really enriching experience.
